An avid fan of Jerry’s who went by the name of Muddy Rivers, lived in Sonoma County, CA and he had his own band. He was very excited to learn that Jerry had moved up that way. Muddy finally met Jerry and then lovingly hounded him for months to sing with his guys.
Jerry decided to meet the band. He really liked what he heard and he thought it was a great opportunity to record one of his favorite Jerry Butler tunes. After 40 years and 23 albums with no nstruments, Jerry had a ball working with an R&B band. He was especially tickled with the unique opening arrangement that he created. For those familiar with Jerry Butler’s version, I think you’ll really appreciate Jerry Lawson’s touch.
Meantime I’m searching our archives for more unreleased Jerry tracks with and without instruments. Probably enough to make an album. And one of them was co-written by Jerry and his friend Vince Welnick of The Grateful Dead. Jerry’s delivery is quite touching and Vince, a classically trained pianist, orchestrated it so beautifully.
Thanks so much for taking the time to visit, listen and learn more about my soulful and much missed husband. I told him on our last day together that I would try til my own last breath to share his music with more of the world. My hope is that you will help me by gifting it to folks in your circles.
